Chelsea Wolfe

Chelsea has been making music for about 10 years now and has slowly being making quite a following for herself.

She’s an American singer song / writer (and you know how much I love a singer/songwriter) with who, to be honest I couldn’t get on board with her earlier work; it was too self consciously The Dark, and Spooky, and over the top for me. I might have loved it in Uni, but it’s not for me these days.

However, her music has been getting heavier with each release and working with bands like Russian Circles is really is having a great effect on her music, it’s getting sludgier and grittier, leaving the ethereal Goth sound behind in waves of distortion.

Not to say this isn’t Goth, it really is, the video is about as Spooky as I’ve seen in years, all mental institutions and PVC Catsuits. The song itself is buried in so much reverb it sounds like it’s coming from down a well, but it’s a spooky well though, like the one from The Ring. So that’s ok.

But it all really clicks together for me on this track, her voice and the force of the guitars push the track relentlessly forward, making for an amazing song.
Put on your huge boots and smear on too much eye make up for old times sake*.

This is great.
